Dialer modes balance preparation, agent time, volume, and risk differently. The fastest mode is not automatically the best choice for every campaign.
Preview dialing
The agent sees the record before deciding to call. This is useful for high-value prospects, collections, account management, or conversations requiring research. It produces lower volume but supports preparation and personalization.
Progressive and power dialing
A progressive dialer starts one call when an agent becomes available. A power dialer automatically works through a list and reduces manual number entry. Implementations vary, so the product description should state whether the system waits for agent availability and how it handles busy, voicemail, and unanswered results.
Predictive dialing
A predictive dialer estimates when agents will become free and places more than one attempt ahead of time. It can improve talk time, but poor pacing creates abandoned calls, silent calls, or customers connected without an agent. Campaigns need conservative limits, accurate staffing, machine-detection tuning, and compliance controls.
Responsible campaign design
Use lawfully obtained contacts, respect consent and do-not-call rules, apply local dialing windows, identify the caller honestly, provide opt-out handling, and suppress numbers promptly. Match CPS and concurrent-call settings to carrier limits. Begin with a small pilot, review outcomes, and increase volume only after answer handling is stable.
